Go Nuts! A Guide to Nut Butters...

 


Everyone loves peanut butter, right? Well just imagine creating your own in a few easy steps. Not only does it taste better, but it's so much better for you than the shop-bought stuff and only contains one (yes that's right) ingredient! And it also leaves your house smelling of peanut butter, what could be better? Have I got your attention yet? If so read on...


Peanut Butter


Ingredients:
300g peanuts

Method:
1. First of all, heat your oven to 180 degrees.

2. Spread out the peanuts onto a baking tray and pop into the oven for 8-10 minutes.

3. Once a golden colour, take the peanuts out and leave to cool for 2 minutes to allow the oils to come out of the peanuts.

4. In a food processor (I find it works better than a blender) blitz the nuts until roughly chopped. At this point you could take out 75-100g of chopped nuts if you want crunchy nut butter. Continue until a smooth paste is formed, adding in the chopped nuts at the end if desired.





5. Scrape into a jar and store in the fridge (you don't have to but I find it stays fresher and tastier).




Peanuts not your cup of tea? You can follow exactly the same process with almonds, cashews, walnuts, pecans etc.
Allergic to nuts or want an alternative?  Try seeds. I find sunflower seeds work really well (they just take longer to blend into a paste but is well worth the wait). Pumpkin seeds and hemp seeds also work.
